Unit 4 Wildlife Protection
Leading in:
Show a short video clip of endangered animals.
T: just now we watched a video clip, what can you see in the video?
Ss: I saw some tigers, pandas, whales, and other animals.
T: yeah, you really have smart eyes. We know, all of them are endangered, and they need our help urgently. Right? Here is a little girl named Daisy, she also wants to protect those endangered animals. Do you know why she wants to protect them?
T: here is a story of Daisy, telling us how did she realize that we should protect the endangered animals in our daily life.
Now please turn your page to 26, here is the text “how Daisy learnt to help wildlife”.
Pre-reading:
T: boys and girls, before you read this passage, you should close your books, and listen to the tape. After listening to the tape, you should answer my question: what does this passage talk about? Ok, let’s start, please listen carefully

Task 1: read the passage quickly and put the following sentences in right order.
1) Daisy found her being watched by an elephant.
2) Daisy woke up and found a flying carpet.
3) As Daisy landed, things began to disappear including the monkey.
4) Daisy and he flying carpet were in a thick rainforest.
5) Daisy looked at an antelope which was looking sad.
Task 2: read the passage within 10 minutes and answer the following T/F questions.
1) Daisy saw many antelopes in Tibet.
2) In three years the antelope may die out.
3) The elephant used to be well protected in Zimbabwe.
4) In Zimbabwe, tourists love to see the rhinos and elephants.
5) The farmers in Zimbabwe get nothing from the elephants and rhinos now.
Task 3: read the passage again and find out the words, phrases, or sentences that you still have difficulties to understand.

Actually, it is a kind of passive voice. Similar structures like it include get married, get hurt, get lost. For example, his shirt got caught on the nail and a button went off.

Now I show the whole story again to you: one day, Daisy dreamed a strange dream. She flew in a wonderful chair to talk with an antelope in Tibet. The antelope told her they were hunted because of their fur which can be used to make sweaters like hers. In three years they may all be gone.
Later, she flew to Zimbabwe where she talked with an elephant and got to know the farmers there no longer hunted them. That’s because the government decided to help and the farmers finally made a lot of money. At last she arrived at the thick rain forest where a monkey told her “no rain forest, no animals and no drugs.” although finally everything was gone, she had learned so much.
